Amherst County Public Schools receives Innovation Grant
Amherst, Va September 21, 2021
State Superintendent Dr. James Lane announced the award of state grants to eleven recipients to which Amherst County was named. With the support of this grant, the division will develop or implement innovative programs that support the preparation of students for careers and post secondary education.
To help ensure that vital work of innovation continues despite disruptions caused by COVID-19, Amherst County will receive $42,850 first-year innovation planning grants.
Supervisor of Innovation and Learning, Dr. Marvin McGinnis says “ he feels a call to action to transition from the traditional umbrella of education to an innovative approach on how we prepare our teachers to teach and students to be life ready”.
ACPS’ grant proposal outlines a three year implementation timeline to include, establishing learning environments that produce students prepared for real life challenges. Division wide innovations include adjusting curriculum and instruction to include the 5 C’s, problem-based learning, authentic tasks and performance assessments. Professional development will equip administrators and teachers to incorporate the Five C’ in all content areas.
