Amherst County Public Schools is announcing the resignation
of School Board member Mr. John Grieser.
Mr. Grieser sent his letter of resignation to the Chair of the Amherst
County School Board, Mr. Chris Terry, and Amherst County Public Schools’
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William Wells, on March 13, 2023. Mr. Grieser served as the School Board
representative for District 1. Mr. Grieser’s resignation will be effective
Monday, March 13, 2023.
Mr. Grieser stated that the decision to resign was
difficult. Mr. Grieser was thankful for
the leadership of Dr. Wells and has confidence in his ability to oversee the
school division. He also stated that he
was thankful that the division has a great staff that carries out the mission
of Every Child, Every Day. He further
stated that he will continue to support Amherst County Public Schools as a
parent and will continue to be an advocate for public instruction.
Amherst County Public Schools would like to thank Mr.
Grieser for his service to the students and staff of Amherst County Public
Schools and wish the best for him and his family.
Amherst County Public Schools will begin the process for
replacing Mr. Grieser immediately. In
accordance with the Code of Virginia 24.2-228, the School Board plans to fill
the position within 45 days of the position becoming vacant. Individuals who are interested in applying to
fill the position need to send a resume’ and letter of interest to the Clerk of
the Amherst County School Board, Mrs. Brittany McNerney, by 5:00 PM Wednesday
April 5, 2023. The School Board intends
to review applications on Thursday April 6, 2023 in closed session. The School Board will hold a special session
on April 20, 2023 to interview the most qualified applicants. In order to be
considered to fill the vacancy, the individual must be a resident and
registered voter in District 1 of Amherst County, Virginia.
